‘Wild Peace’

Filmaker and 20 Jazz Funk Greatser Daniel Nixon - who shot the band’s celebrated ‘Young Silence’ - has shot an otherworldly video for Echo Lake’s LP title track ‘Wild Peace’. Director’s commentary below, and thanks to Fruit Media, Planetside Software and Fractured Films.

Around the time Echo Lake asked me to make a second video for them I’d become a bit obsessed with procedural generation and, with the sweeping strings in Wild Peace, it wasn’t hard to translate that into grand vistas and swooping cameras — something procedural terrain software is very good at. At the same time I kept returning to 50 Watts’ brilliant Space Teriyaki illustration series.  There’s something about the airbrushed emptiness of some of that Sci-Fi art that I couldn’t get out of my head.  Added in to all that, the line in the song about creating ‘an easier time’ and the whole unreal/real/fragile world became the driving theme of the video.
